SDP on SHAns: A great initiative for Student Mental Issues

As a response to the emerging COVID-19 outbreak, the Student Services department launched the Student Development Program (SDP) to combat the effects of the pandemic to SHAn students who are threatened in their mental state.

The Student Development Program was conceptualized when COVID-19 Pandemic demobilized the face-to-face classes, leaving students in confusion while adjusting to new normal learning setup.

Its main goal is to nurture the psychological well-being of the SHAn students by conducting monthly sessions mainly focusing on emotional growth-related topics.

According to Ms. Mary Christine Ami, a registered Psychometrician acting as the Student Development Facilitator for SHS and College department and Testing Evaluation Officer, the SDP is a great initiative to resolve the students’ personal and possible career stagnancy in the current pandemic.

“During this time, some of the students are having a hard time adjusting to the new normal education. Maybe some of them are feeling distressed on different factors that affect their academics and their personal lives.” Ms. Ami said.

Aside from the Student Development Program, the Student Support Services encourages mentally-triggered SHAns to avail their opportunities to seek guidance for their mental health-related issues.

“We, at the Student Support Services, are here to be your shoulder, to be your guide. We are always here for you. So as you take care of yourselves, always remember that you have to take care of your mind as well.” Ms. Ami said.

The Student Support Services initiated their SDP session last August 26-19 by emphasizing the Values on Education as SHA commenced this School Year 2021-2022.
